Balancing useability with uniqueness

Interfaces are appearing in more and more unique aspects of our lives. This proliferation of the interface, to be effective, requires careful planning and close attention to details. My work has effectively addressed these needs through technically adept, formally defined, uniquely designed interactive components.

Net2Phone This project involved redesigning the Microsoft Windows interface for the most popular PC-based phone application. The challenge was to create an interface with the look-and-feel of the user's operating system, but with a more evolved interface, providing quick access to the most frequently used features. This interfaces was then evolved for the final Net To Phone PC application.

Quantum Buy This interface was for a scientific product site, Quantum Buy. It utilized the visual light spectrum to locate products, smoothly transitioning between categories. The width of each element is based on the number of products within that category.

McKinsey Learning Portal
One segment of this internal training and educational site required a complex organization of pages. To ease the user into this complexity, I utilized a 2D matrix that would, upon mouse over, highlight the different relationships between items. Another major challenge of this piece was to balance screen real estate with functionality. We didn't want to force the user to scroll to view the page contents, but didn't want to hide the relationships between pages behind drill downs. This solution perfectly balanced these needs.

Social Events This extremely useful, technically complex, web interface for Social Events, the global gift-giving site, involved developing four cross browser mini windows that scroll vertically. I arrived at this solution because of the need to easily show all the user-selected information clearly on one page.

Sensor Re:Engine This is a very playful interface for an interactive arts group, Sensor Re:Engine. The challenge was to come up with a clean, fast, fun interface that allows users a more unique navigational gizmo to the site. This solution resonates very closely with the fundamental theory behind this multimedia collective.
